Green Mountain Lakewood whole house remodel

This lovely 1963 walkout ranch, with city views, boasted an excellent floorplan and tons of natural light. But it was feeling a little tired and needed a boost going in to its 6th decade. Constructive Builders purchased the home and completely remodeled it top to bottom, keeping clean lines and views as the showpiece, but adding Scandinavian warm wood and making the lower level more functional.

This new construction home was built in place of a teardown on this lovely lot in the unique Valentine Hills neighborhood. We built a new home in its place with a custom plan, warm but contemporary finishes, environmentally friendly touches and tons of natural light. All backing up to quiet County Open space (trees and owls galore).

Midcentury grows up in Arden Hills

This 1958 home featured an original carport and had been well-loved by its prior longtime owners. Upon purchase, the Constructive Builders team re-imagined the home to better accommodate a 2020 family, including: creating a true enclosed garage, adding a second story with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, creating a master suite, adding gas fireplace inserts and remodeling the interiors. We hoped to keep the integrity of the midcentury character while updating and freshening the home to better meet today's styles.

Updated a primary bath and kitchen in this dated Arvada home. Clients had a cool style so we were able to do some unique things and really give this home some personality for its new owners!

A creative young family had a vision for a serene and modern space in their dated and disconnected home. A white color palette was warmed with white oak - and every design and construction detail matters when you're not distracted by multiple elements or colors. Projects included: moving the kitchen, adding Kolbe double slider window and patio doors to backyard,  new living room windows, all new white oak hardwood flooring, new lighting, widening all openings between main living spaces (cased in white oak), creating a functional mini mudroom space off garage, modernizing the staircase with a white oak vertical slat wall, and a new front door/sidelight.

Major Midcentury Redux in Arden Hills

Constructive Builders purchased this midcentury home in late 2017 for two reasons: 1) an awesome 1 acre lot, 2) amazing all wood vaulted ceilings. Beyond those two features, this house was a mess and we think many builders would have torn it down vs. working with the amazing ceilings. Flash forward to July 2018 and we have completed a major 3 car garage addition with master suite and laundry above garage, a new entry on the north side of the home (including guest powder room), an awesome new deck and the interior completely redone. All new plumbing, electrical, roof (had to be rebuilt to fix water damage), windows, drywall, tile, cabinetry, you name it. White oak floors with Nordic Wash finish. Custom cabinetry. Cherry accents. Midcentury vibe but with modern updates.

St. Louis Park updated farmhouse

A wonderful family new to the area hired us to help them transform a tiny house on a great St. Louis Park street into an updated modern farmhouse style home. We added the family room off the back, an entire second story and a new front porch. The transformation was quite remarkable! This home features gorgeous finishes throughout including white oak wide plank floors, aged-finish oak cabinetry, unique tile touches and lots of black and white. A stylish home that is timeless, so comfortable and a great use of space on a small lot. What a treat to build and work with these clients!

From tiny cottage to city-sized modern farmhouse

Scandinavian remodel and addition in Arden Hills

A sweet young family partnered with us to remodel and add on to their 1950s rambler. We reconfigured existing dining spaces to form a new office, powder room and mudroom and added off the back to create a new open kitchen/dining/family room space. The homeowner's theme was coastal Scandinavian; it's a lovely blend of bright white, matte black and warm weathered woods, with natural touches throughout.

Not your grandparent's rambler!

Opened up and added so much bright, fresh style to this 1950 ranch home. Converted galley style kitchen to an open bar to living space. Revised stairwell. Created mudroom space from garage to home. Created informal dining nook with awesome coffee bar and desk space. Refinished red oak floors. Added living room lighting and scraped ceilings. Reconfigured a small master and larger hall bath into two hardworking and functional spaces for this family - including a much larger master shower.

Maple staircase

Prior home was set on gorgeous lot on St. Croix River in Afton, but the home lacked light, space and had some moisture issues. Based on designs created by Shelter Architecture + Design, we demoed the home down to the lower/basement level and rebuilt two new floors above. Home features tremendous views (Kolbe windows), a central focal point floating staircase, wide plank white oak floors, slate fireplace, cozy porch, a treehouse style master suite and an elevator for aging in place. Built on a challenging slope, much of this site had access issues. Luckily the views and homeowners were fabulous and we had so much fun creating this one-of-a-kind home.

St. Croix Valley - Afton home - contemporary rebuild

Roosevelt St. Anthony Village

Remodeled this well-loved and immaculately cared for home in St. Anthony Village, including a full interior and exterior remodel. Upper bathrooms had to be reconfigured to accommodate a standard sized tub. Kitchen was opened up. Maple hardwoods were added. Mudroom, laundry and basement bedroom with egress were added. 

West River Road Kitchen addition

Gorgeous kitchen addition melds trend and timelessness! We partnered with some great clients to add on to this S. Minneapolis bungalow to enlarge kitchen and create an additional hang out space and create a larger back entry. Kitchen features custom cabinetry, surround sound, layered lighting, quartz countertops, shiplap and hardwoods to match existing. 

1950 St. Anthony Village remodel goes modern

We were hired to update this family home from grandma's house to a modern home for a young family. Work included all new kitchen, two new bathrooms, updated bedrooms, all new interior doors, all new hardwood floors upstairs and on stairs, new windows, awesome new laundry room/mudroom area.

Crisp reno in St. Anthony Village

This 1950's rambler had a dark and closed off kitchen. The clients had a very specific vision and wanted to open the space between the kitchen and living rooms while working around the existing stairwell to the basement. A big feature for the space was a custom built vertical slat wall with walnut stain. We also created a mudroom bump out to deal with coats and shoes upon entry. Other materials used include a farmhouse single bowl sink, IKEA Cabinets with Semihandmade door fronts and quartz countertops.

St. Anthony 60's remodel

We bought this original owner home and gave it a new, fresh life! Updated throughout and added a bedroom (with egress), bathroom and mudroom space in basement. Reconfigured the staircase, which was out of level and equipped with a chair lift. Kept character of the 1960s while making it fresh, clean and relevant. 

Transit Ave whole house remodel -- Roseville, MN

Roseville residents bought a fixer upper with 50's/60's original finishes and partnered with us to remodel the home top to bottom. Exterior updates were minimal, but included all new windows and roof. Interior updates included adding a master bath suite upstairs and updating all finishes on the upper and main floors. In the lower level we converted a storage room in to a workout space. Great clients, great taste; we had so much fun making an existing home new again!

Mac Groveland Bungalow Renovation

This 1920-built bungalow in Mac Groveland had beautiful original woodwork but was otherwise extremely dated, dirty and run down. We remodeled the main and upper levels including adding a powder room on the main level (house was only a 1 bathroom up prior). Work included: opening up the kitchen to the dining area,  a totally remodeled kitchen, removing wallpaper and patching walls, all new windows, updated upper level powder room, enclosing a back porch, refinishing and staining hardwood floors, new hardwood in kitchen to match existing, all new light fixtures and new interior/exterior paint throughout.

Roseville, MN mudroom addition/kitchen and living remodel

This family hired us to design a new mudroom off the back of their home where they enter from the garage. We designed and built out this space. We also helped the owners envision and complete a main level remodel including taking down a fireplace wall that separated their kitchen and living areas, updating the kitchen (new countertops, lighting and backsplash) and installing a pantry closet for more storage. We also framed a wall of windows in the living room and created a built in fireplace and cabinet area. New wood floors through the new spaces as well.

1965 Arden Hills Home Remodel/Addition

We purchased and completely updated this 1965 Arden Hills home on Oak Ave. near Lake Johanna. Home featured 4 BRs, but they were all in the lower level, and the kitchen was small and dark. So we completely rethought the floor plan and added a main level master suite, plus new space over the garage for two kids bedrooms and a bath. Two of the basement bedrooms were then converted in to a large family room space. 

Bath Crashers - Episode "Mediterranean Mood"

Constructive Builders served as the general contractor on this 2014 episode of Bath Crashers - a DIY network show.

In this project a short, small, narrow bathroom and the master bedroom are razed to become a huge multi-functional spa flavored with Mediterranean accents and flair. The focal point is a walk-in shower in the center of the space with a large rain showerhead and body sprays. A cedar screen provides privacy on one side of the shower while storage cubbies and a unique water feature with a DIY valance enclose two other walls of the wet space. There's a large makeup vanity for her with a DIY cedar beam wrapped with more than half-a-dozen pendant lights suspended directly above. A long double-sink vanity with DIY basket weave cedar doors provides clean-up outside the shower, and the entire floor is laid with classy, durable, vinyl tile planks. Cedar planks line part of the ceiling outside a separate powder room built especially for guests complete the transformation.

Shoreview, MN addition/remodel

Created a two story addition on his Shoreview home near Lake Owasso. Remodeled kitchen and created new living room space. All new walnut flooring. Upstairs created master bedroom/bathroom suite and remodeled existing bedroom access. New front deck. All new exterior siding and roof.

Arden Hills 2nd Story Addition

The client wanted to expand this  rambler with tuck under garage to provide space for their 4 children. It was decided a 2nd story addition would be the most economical approach. Design included:
3 bedrooms, bath and activity room in 2nd floor addition.
Reconfigured main floor to enlarge master bedroom suite.
Pantry and breakfast nook added to kitchen.
Opening up dining & entry areas to enable views to backyard.

80s house gets facelift - Arden Hills

This soft contemporary home had a great, open floorplan and lots of mechanical updates. But the interior finishes hadn't been touched since 1986. While the purple jacuzzi soaker in the master was surely a hot touch in that day, it was time for a fresh approach. We updated this home top to bottom for resale in this popular Arden Hills neighborhood. 

Turtle Lake home addition and remodel

Added a 4th bedroom and upstairs laundry room to the upstairs of this beautiful Turtle lake home in Shoreview, MN. Completed various other remodeling projects inside as well, including: new Cambria countertops in kitchen; kitchen bar; fireplace mantel and built-ins; and installing two sliding barn doors.

Lake Johanna/Arden Hills whole house remodel

Totally remodeled 1950s rambler situated on a large wooded lot near Lake Johanna in Arden Hills. House hadn't had any updates since original construction except a 1980s kitchen remodel. A master suite was added over flat roof garage. Otherwise the original size and layout of the home was maintained. South Minneapolis kitchen remodel

Remodel a small and dark kitchen in South Minneapolis. This kitchen had an inefficient layout. By moving things around and installing custom cabinetry for greater storage, this white and bright kitchen is 100 times more functional with no added space.
